AI Assistant
The Assistant is an AI analyst built into CloseCore. It has read access to your ERP data and close files, so it can answer questions, dig into variances, and propose changes to your workpapers.
The Assistant may not yet be enabled for your account. Contact your account manager if you'd like access.
What the Assistant can do
Query your ERP live
The Assistant reads directly from your ERP. Ask it to pull account balances, compare periods, or drill into the transactions behind a number:
- "What's the cash balance in Entity A for March?"
- "Show me SG&A by department for Q1 vs Q4."
- "Pull all checks over $50,000 posted to Travel in February."
It resolves account names, vendor names, departments, locations, and other dimensions from your chart of accounts before making any call, so it never invents an ID or guesses a number.
Browse and read your close files
The Assistant can navigate your cloud-storage close folders and read the contents of workbooks:
- Search by name and period: "Find the bank rec workbook for March."
- Browse a folder tree: list files for a given entity and period.
- Open and read an xlsx or Google Sheet: read sheets, look up values, understand formulas.
It understands CloseCore reconciliation tags (#cc-XXXX) embedded in workpapers and can
compare a workbook's tagged balance against the live ERP balance to check for variances.
Propose edits to workpapers
When you ask the Assistant to change a file, it stages a reviewable proposal, without editing the cloud file directly. You inspect the proposed changes hunk-by-hunk and apply or discard each one.
- Edit cells or ranges in an existing xlsx or Google Sheet.
- Create a brand-new workbook and stage it for upload to a folder you choose.
- Delete a file (also staged as a proposal until you confirm).
Generate charts and analysis
For breakdowns, period comparisons, or trend questions, the Assistant generates an inline chart alongside a written summary so you can see the shape of the data and the key takeaway together.
Answer general accounting questions
The Assistant can also answer general accounting or GAAP questions that don't require your specific data.
Starting a conversation
Open Assistant from the navigation menu. Type a question in plain language. The Assistant may ask clarifying questions (for example, which entity or period you mean) before pulling data.
Sessions are persistent: your conversation history stays available so you can pick up where you left off or ask follow-up questions.
The Assistant in Excel
The Assistant is also available inside the Add-in for Excel, where it has direct context on the workbook you have open. In Excel mode it can:
- Answer questions about the current sheet or a selected range.
- Propose edits directly to the open workbook, such as cell changes, row inserts, or new sheets, which you approve and apply through the add-in UI.
See Using the Add-in for Excel for setup and usage.
What the Assistant cannot do
- No ERP writes. It cannot post journal entries, modify ERP records, or mark CloseCore tasks complete.
- No direct file edits. All workpaper changes go through proposals that require your approval.
- No tax or legal advice. It is an accounting analyst, not a tax or legal advisor.
